Season Beginnings: Comparisons

The Red Wings are only 14 games into the season but so far they are looking good.

Last season the Wings were 7-7 after the first 14 games compared to their record of 10-4 this season. The Wings started off last season facing several challenges including several injuries and the loss of some crucial players including Marian Hossa, Jiri Hudler, and Mikael Samuelsson.

Even though this year Hudler returned and the Wings have all been relatively healthy, could they potentially be doing better?

The Wings are dealing with a different challenge this year with three of their forwards Darren Helm, Jiri Hudler, and Drew Miller are still goalless after the first 14 games.

Head Coach Mike Babcock is expecting Hudler to earn his spot in the top 9 and a position on the third line. In an effort to motivate Hudler, Coach Babcock has been playing him on the fourth line.

Coach Babcock has been making several player changes throughout the beginning of the season to get the right chemistry going for the Red Wings. He has made many changes to both the offensive and defensive lines.

For now, only time will tell which will be the best line-ups and when these three forwards will break their scoreless streaks.
