Wings Sign Howard for Two More Years

General Manager Ken Holland announced earlier today that Jimmy Howard signed with the Red Wings to a two-year contract extension at $2.25 million per season. If not for the signing a contract with the Wings, Howard would have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

Howard has made 47 starts for the Wings this season and with 30 wins, he is currently leading the league. His stats on the season are 2.79 G.A.A. and .908 SV%.

Last season Howard played his first full season and earned a 37-15-10 record, which made him a contender for the Calder Trophy as NHL Rookie of the year. His 30 plus victories made him the Red Wings fourth goalie to have won 30 or more games in their freshman year.

Howard has earned himself several awards throughout his NCAA hockey career when he played for the Black Bears at the University of Maine and he has even contributed to Team USA winning their first ever Gold Medal in 2002. Now Howard is pursuing the biggest honor in hockey, his first Stanley Cup Championship.
